"My art is the voice of my emotions,

without that I’d be fairly mute…”

Ashley’s work is currently hand drawn exclusively in blue ink - biro to be precise.

Each piece is a product of a process both spontaneous and deliberate: a layering of line upon line, every segment worked and reworked, before being digitally enlarged onto canvas.

This process amplifies the inks imperfections and character in a way that wouldn’t be realised by applying biro ink directly on to canvas. Originality is maintained as only one print is ever produced of each piece.

“…I’m compelled by the permanent,

unforgiving nature of blue ink.”

With it comes a lesson in acceptance which is synonymous of life - imperfections serve better when acknowledged and embraced rather than viewed as an indelible stain of shame or regret.

The non-intrusive 2D blue-on-white scapes are largely unhindered by focal, representational subject matter. Upon entering an unpredictable maze of lines & movement, the viewer is free to linger in their unique pathway of perception.
